In Sept I made a flying trip for a weekend to pay a visit to catch up with Alec Roberts one of my popular ex Drvetime PGA Instructors now teaching at Golf Moossee near Bern Switzerland and then we both headed to the Swiss Omega European Masters at the beautiful resort of Crans Montana for a day.
The visit provided us with a chance to catch up with Warrington's own Phil Archer enjoying his best ever season on the European Tour, coached by my good friend Mark Pearson, plus see Garcia in action and Michelle Wie playing by special invitation of Omega.
Bradley Dredge won the event with a runaway score of -17 with Garcia finishing joint 3rd and Phil joint 6 th after opening and closing round of 68's along with a pair of 72's. With several top ten finishes plus a record equalling 60 (lipped out for 59) in the Celtic Manor Wales Open and a great finish to the season in the Volvo Masters at Valderrama, Phil has secured his top 50 place on tour and it will be no surprise if he enters the winners enclosure when the tour resumes in 2007. Wie unfortunately missed the cut but was a great attraction demonstrating style, power and grace
The event was a couple of hours drive from Alec's base up into the Swiss Alps with the course situated some 6000ft above sea level in the beautiful ski resort of Crans Montana. You can see from the accompanying pictures and video clips what a fantastic part of the world this is and why the tour players enjoy this event so much. I am already looking forward to returning again next year.
