(Junction City, OR) - USF women's golf won its second tournament of the year in convincing fashion, posting a 15-Stroke victory at the 2009 Oregon Duck Invitational Tuesday at Shadow Hills Country Club. The No. 28 ranked Dons shot 295 in Tuesday's final round, finishing at 887 (291, 301, 295) in front of tournament host No. 29 Oregon at 902 (301, 303, 298).
Four USF players finished in the top-10 led by junior Natasha Podmore who captured medalist honors at 218 (71, 72, 75) and was the only player in the field to have two rounds at par or better. It is the first USF career tournament victory for Podmore and the first for the Dons since former standout Jessica Potter won the Oregon Duck in 2006.
Junior Danielle Cvitanov earned runner-up honors with a 220 (72, 75, 73), while junior Tinna Johannsdottir shared seventh place at 226 (73, 80, 73). Junior Diana Hong finished tied for ninth at 227 (75, 76, 76).
San Francisco posted a runner-up showing in its last event, the 2009 Lexus Fresno State Invitational, dropping a one stroke decision to UC Irvine. The Dons gave the field no chance to come from behind this time and adjusted to weather and course conditions. "They were really hungry for a win, especially after what we went through at Fresno," USF head coach Ria Quiazon said. "Every person on the team contributed again. I am so proud of the way they adjusted to the conditions of the course. They made terrific decisions on club selections and kept their composure despite some challenging conditions."
Quiazon was proud of the lift that Podmore and Cvitanov gave the squad in USF's second Duck Invitational triumph in three years. "Natasha has worked very hard on their putting the last couple a week and it made a huge difference. They just played their own games and played to their strengths," Quiazon said.
Podmore led the field in par-3 scoring at four-under and paced the field at most holes at par or better with 46 out of 54, including seven birdies. Johannsdottir tallied the most birdies in the event with 10, while Cvitanov shared second place with nine. Hong shared ninth place in most pars in the event with 36.
As a team the Dons led the field in par-3 scoring (3.12), par-4 scoring (4.25), par-5 scoring (4.95) birdies (35)
and par holes (168).
