Adrian visits Head EGU coach at The National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa
November 2008

English Golf UnionAs part of on going professional development PGA Professionals need to constantly update their knowledge and skills by attending various CPD (Continued Professional Development) seminars and accrue points each year to maintain their full status.

One of Adrian’s chosen seminars was listening to a presentation by English Golf Union head Coach Peter Mattson. Peter, a highly respected Swedish professional was selected to head up the redevelopment of the English golf structure covering a wide remit with particular interest in developing future champions bringing them up through the English set up.

Adrian’s interest of how it works and what takes place is heightened recently as he has three students who have been in and out of the England Elite and A squads with James Robinson doing particularly well of late.

The formal seminar was followed by practical sessions on the EGU’s great practice facility down at Woodhall Spa. These sessions included practising effectively under pressure, using games to simulate playing in competition and tests including a variety of shot making skills.
The day provided some very useful information which is now being used by Adrian in his daily teaching, not just for the Elite golfers but also in helping handicap players structure their practice sessions more efficiently.
