It's a well-publicised fact 65% of all golf shots are taken from about 100 yards and in. In this issue my video Pitching tips should encourage you to devote a little more time to improving your pitching technique and personalise your distance control.

Zach Johnson's victory in the US Masters proved the not so big hitters can still win if they

possess a sharp pitching game, Johnson never went for a single par 5 yet managed to birdie 11 out of the 16 played. (See leading US columnist Dan Jenkins interesting article) http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/masters07/news/story?id=2838270

If you're serious about improvement, like your counterparts on every professional tour it would be wise to have a more ‘holistic' approach to your game. This means creating time not to just work on your full swing but also work on creating a balance between mind, body, swing, short game and scoring techniques. Compared to when I grew up, all I had as reference points were a well-thumbed Jack Nicklaus golf book, cartoon strips from Gary Player along with the US Masters, The Open and occasional other golf event covered on TV by the BBC! Now with the internet, TV, magazines and other digital media and a fantastic improvement in the quality of professional golf lessons, you, the improving golfer really has access to a massive database of information at your finger tips if you have time to sort through it. The point I'm making is the information is there for you to absorb if you are prepared to ‘dig' a little, Hogan said ‘the secret's in the dirt'.

On the swing and short game side I'd like to inform you of my recent book release GOLF IN THE ZONE, which in partnership with Dr Karl Morris is a selection of swing and mental tips reproduced from our magazine articles in a handy sized hardback available from either the publisher DC Charles or Amazon. (click the Adrian Fryer logo above for more info) If you are looking for further help with your swing then register on the new much improved www.gegolf.co.uk website, visit the tips section, login and see some exclusive game improvement tips of mine plus great rules and inner game advice from Dr Karl Morris (www.golf-brain.com) too.

So, with an improved pitching game and good mental toughness you should also look at your all round fitness and flexibility. Tiger has raised the bar at the professional level but you don't need his regime to gain a few extra yards. There are plenty of golf specific fitness books available but I would like to make you aware of a self-prescribed exercise programme for golfers recently released onto the market by Chartered Physiotherapist Steven Harris and endorsed by client, Paul Broadhurst, European Tour and Ryder Cup Player.

For the first time this is a golf exercise DVD aimed at golfers of all ages and skill levels and has been devised to enable the golfer to assess his or her flexibility through a series of simple tests. Crucially, you are then able to ‘cherry pick' the relevant exercises you need and personalise the programme to focus only on the regions of your body that require improvement in strength and flexibility. I personally enjoyed this thorough yet flexible approach in this 2 disc DVD set, that will allow you, the student, to work through at your own pace. To take advantage of the special introductory offer of this excellent DVD programme visit www.bodygolf.co.uk
Following on from the recent successful Dr Karl Morris event here at Drivetime, in the near future Steve Harris will be conducting a BodyGolf evening demonstrating the content of the programme. If you would like to be notified of this select event please e mail info@adrianfyergolf.com.
